Piedmont and the Region Together
The Triad Project was a complementary part of the Piedmont Triad Regional Council of Government’s HUD Sustainable Community Initiative. Known as “Piedmont Together”, this ambitious project articulated a map of growth and demonstrated issues for the greater Triad region. Spanning a land area equal in size to the state of Connecticut, this area contains three cities that are in the top 10 most populous cities in North Carolina. It also contains numerous small and mid-sized cities. This is the largest regional analysis Urban3 has performed. Much like smaller municipal analyses, the results clearly demonstrated the potency of cities within counties, but also the region. Additionally, because of the regional scale, communities were able to see the potency of other infill, mixed-use and TOD friendly projects within the same market. Several communities have utilized findings from the study to introduce new master plans and ordinance changes, incorporating those changes into comprehensive plans.
